Marley is a 4 year old female spayed Miniature Schnauzer that has been a patient of SLVS since 2011 and quickly became a favorite patient among all the doctors and staff! Marley originally came in to our Internal Medicine department because of urinary incontinence and elevated liver enzymes. Dr. Medici, one of our internists, performed various diagnostic testing, including radiographs, fluoroscopy, and blood work and determined that Marley had a portosystemic shunt that would require surgery. Marley was evaluated by our board-certified surgeon, Dr. Bubenik and the surgery was perfomed to repair the shunt. A portosystemic shunt, also called a liver shunt is a blood vessel that carries blood around the liver instead of through it.
